WIP : Bear? in the making!

Since im on vacation right now, I thought y not try some new things, and ta-da!

Bear? in the making! this is my first attempt at making a plushie with the help of a really good bear-maker ( a person, not a machine, i dun cheat.lol).

Its still 'bear?' because i doubt it looks like a bear anymore...anyway, i took 4 hours just to complete its head...its not easy at all guys...and this is my first time sewing too, so im pretty slow...hope it turns out orite...haha:)

Are we allowed to be creative?

Are we allowed to be creative? Better yet, do we allowed ourselves to be creative?

Before reading on, do watch the creative works of 'meiwa denki 明和電機' They are a design company that deals with interactive design merged with engineering. Their current president, Nobumichi Tosa, had to be the most eccentric person i ever saw. They dared to dream, and put art before commerce.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4sB3xwU2FU

Upon recieving an assignment, the first ideas that comes to your mind is often wacky and technically 'nonsense', but thats the sheer brilliance of it, its at the raw stage where you don't spend much time thinking about how realistic it is. However, reality will soon seep in and forces your to change to a more 'safe' concept. Now, why do we do that?

  • For students like us, it has to be the grades. Every concept must go through the tutors. If they deemed it 'unsuitable', most likely they will suggest their own twist to it or even ask you to drop the concept. Now, who are they to say what's right? This kills creativity.

  • How many of you hate briefs? briefs means creative roadblocks. It strangles your mind and forces you to come out with something that is not you. Briefs are meant for designers, who work for clients, bringing in a steady income. But how many of you are daring enough to be an artist? one who work for himself and do the unexpected? Are you a designer or an artist?

Do we, in this society where a paper is everything, have a chance to be creative? To be abnormal, unexpected and break free of all barriers?

Students, experienced designers/artists, do share your thoughts on this..:)

Illustrate or die!

Practice practice! This is the the previous banner for this blog (Banner #01!)...We intend to keep on changing the colours and banners whenever we got the time..otherwise its abit boring...lol...

After reading the bentheillustrator tutorial in computer arts may 2007, i was itching to try it myself...

hmm...i got feedbacks that i should have more activity on the sidewalk...but well, my main focus is to try to illustrate buildings in that style...btw, the tree is from the tutorial...:) constructive comments welcomed!

Curvyyyy...

Woot! 12 days without posting anything~

We have been very busy doing our concept pitch and stuff...
Anyway, here's a book i've bought not long ago from a basheer sale in school.

CURVY 3!

Produced by YEN Australia Published by PAPERTIGER
Retails : $30+, got it for $20 since its a sale

The curvy series features female illustrators all around the world. Only female! All the girl power is in it. Curvy 3 is one of its kind as it features some maori art, which is very interesting to look at. Its quite a bargain at $20....so overall its a good art book to drool on..:)

Anydoodles Logo Design Contest

Logo for the anydoodles logo design contest
Logo description:
Qns:How does a doodle come about?
Ans:Imagination + lines. they work hand in hand to deliver creative works. Both are equally important. The logo design i did is entirely based on that idea. Drawing methods like cross-hatching are fused inside the logo. Without lines, nothing will be created. Thus, this is back to basics.
Vote for it at http://www.anydoodles.com/
Voting starts 1st December 2007
